(Windows 11) How to activate the Windows spotlight wallpaper

On October 5, 2021, Windows 11 was released, bringing with it a slew of changes from Windows 10, but the work didn’t stop there. Microsoft is constantly updating Windows 11 with new features, and one of the most recent additions is the opportunity to choose a daily wallpaper from a selection provided by Microsoft. You can activate this sort of wallpaper in Windows 11 using a feature called Windows Spotlight, which we’ll walk you through in this article if you’re not familiar with it.

What is Windows Spotlight?

Windows Spotlight isn’t a new feature in Windows 11, but rather a revamped one. This feature was initially launched in Windows 10, and it provided you with a daily-changing lock screen picture. Typically, these are images from throughout the globe, often in commemoration of international events. There’s always something fresh to view in this online collection of photos. In addition to the photos, Microsoft often adds a few lines of text explaining them.

Additionally, the lock screen may be modified to advertise certain Windows features or Microsoft Store applications. Desktop wallpaper implementation, on the other hand, exclusively displays images from across the globe. It’s a terrific way to see something new every day or to discover new locations you’d want to visit in the future. You won’t be able to view the personalized messages that appear on the lock screen while using the desktop version, but you will be able to see the location where the picture was shot.

How to make Windows 10’s spotlight wallpaper active
The procedure of enabling Windows Spotlight is uncomplicated, but there are a few prerequisites. Make sure you have Windows 11 build 22000.706 or above installed on your computer. Visit the Settings app and choose System (it should be your default page), then About to get this information. Make sure that your build number is not more than 22000.706 before downloading the newest Windows updates.

Following these simple steps will enable Windows Spotlight if you have the proper version number:

  1. Go to the Settings menu of your device.
  2. To change the background, choose Personalization from the side menu.
  3. Select Windows highlight from the drop-down option next to Personalize your background.
  4. Hopefully, you may now view the newest Windows Spotlight wallpaper on your desktop. Also, if you haven’t already, you’ll see a new desktop icon (unless you’ve decided to hide all desktop icons) that allows you to tell Microsoft whether you like the photograph and also reveal where it was shot.
  5. This functionality may be disabled by returning to the same page and selecting a different backdrop.

There you go. Windows spotlight may also be set as your lock screen, but this should be the default. Simply return to the Settings app and choose Personalization -> Lock screen to see your lock screen settings. This choice will be the first to appear on this list.
