Congrats, you might probably be on this page because you are thinking of getting a new car for yourself and as well interested to know few things to look up to while on a search for your dream car.

What you might be looking for is a good efficient, durable, reliable and affordable car that will fulfill a certain goal without adding unnecessary headaches in your life that is why you must look carefully before making such choice.

The most important things you need to consider before buying a car

The most important thing is that you have the money to buy a new car or to change your old ones though it becomes a great challenge to find a good reliable car that will serve you the way you want we are going to look into some few things you must consider before buying any car.

Your Budget and Choice

The amount you have mapped out for your new car project will go a long way in helping you determine the type and grade of the car you should be going for.
When buying a car the question might not always be what you want but what you can afford and the choice you need to make will be based on your budgets but as long as you have some reasonable amount of money you will still have some other choice to make.
Let assume you have 1.5M or 2 Million then there are many good cars that fall under your budgets but the question remains, which one should I choose among others.

Choose between New and Used Cars

In a country like Nigeria buying a new car is like an impossible task and only left for politicians and other successful businessmen who can afford to spend between 10 – 100 million plus to buy a brand new car.
80% Nigerians will rather go for Foreign used cars popularly known as (Tokunbo Cars) in Nigerian which is also a good choice compared to locally used cars (Nigerian used).
Nigerian used cars and Foreign used cars

Foreign used Cars

We call foreign used cars in Nigeria tokunbo which implies to any car that is not a brand new car but was used in other developed countries like USA, Japan, Germany, Italy before shipping it to Nigeria.
when you don’t have enough fund to go for a brand new car then your best option is to go for Foreign used cars because they are being used in good motorable roads and equally well maintained, some of them will have all the mechanism intact just like a brand new car while some might have minor issues that can easily be fixed.

Nigerian used Cars

Going for Nigerian used cars is not always a good choice because such a car has been exposed to unfriendly bad roads and might not be well maintained as it should or when compared to foreign used cars but still we can’t write it off totally because some Nigerians still knows how to maintain their vehicles and some of them might be selling their car not because it gives them headaches but because they want to upgrade to something better or maybe because they need urgent cash to take care of some immediate needs.
More reason why I don’t recommend Nigerian used cars is that some of them has been repaired by unprofessional mechanics that might have cut and joined the wrong wires or those who can cure a headache and add fever and at the end, you are still in trouble.
I have seen some cars that once you turned off the engine you will quickly remove the battery connector till you are ready to use the car again because some wrong connections will drain the battery even when everything is turned off.

Don’t feel so excited about the body

How good a car looks might be different from how it performs on the road and if you are wise you will be interested to know about the engine and other mechanisms.
Some people will still be happy to buy a good looking first body car even with a faulty engine while some will need perfect working engine/gearbox irrespective of how the body looks buts it’s all our choice I prefer going for good engine and as well good body possibly.

Maintenance cost and fuel efficiency

When you have enough money you might be looking for some cars with real power and convenience  not how much it will cost you to maintain it or how much fuel it consumes but I guess you have other things you need to do with your money and not just your car so it’s important to know the maintenance cost of your dream car and how economical it is in terms of fuel consumption.
There are some cars that will cost you more to replace any of its parts than others and if you don’t want any headaches then you need a car you can easily afford the parts and as well other maintenance needs that might arise in the future.

Don’t go for the cheapest

I understand how happy you can be to spend less and get more but when it comes to cars, the cheapest is not always the best, you should ask yourself why is this car so cheap than others, go for the one that offers the things you need and not just the most affordable one that might force you to spend more at the long run.

Decide between FWD and AWD/4WD

To clarify you FWD represent Front Wheel Drive which means that the power from the engine is delivered to the front wheels of the vehicle any car with FWD shows that the front wheels are pulling the car and the rear wheels don’t receive any power on their own but to sport the front wheels.
4WD is generally known as a car or a larger SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) that uses a driver-selectable system that mechanically engages the drive to all four wheels. 4WD is normally used on large SUV Four-Wheel Drive (4×4) vehiclesIf you are looking for power and efficiency then you should go for a car with AWD/4WD but both of them are good and if you are not in any area where there is bad road then you shouldn’t worry at all about FWD and AWD/4WD.

Choose between 4 cylinders and 6 cylinder

If you are more concerned about fuel consumption then you should go for a car with 4 cylinders but if you need a strong, smart and fast running car then 6 cylinders might be a good bargain for you but I repeat if you need a car that consumes lesser fuel go for 4 cylinders.
Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoyed and has found the answer to all your questions but if you are still not satisfied then feel free to ask me anything.
